Kenya Ngemwa AA
Situated in Kiambu County of south central Kenya is the Ngemwa Estate, which has been growing coffee since 1948. During the harvest, the cherries are carefully handpicked and delivered to the mill. Once there, the coffee is sorted and pulped via machine to remove the external fruit. The coffee is then fermented in cement tanks to break down the mucilage, then is washed through channels to remove any remaining mucilage or foreign matter. The coffee is dispersed on raised beds to dry in the open sun until the ideal moisture content is reached. Ngemwa Estate employs around 40 people, 15 of which live on the farm with their families. The welfare of the staff is important to the estate, and various amenities such as fresh water and a dairy unit are available for the families to use. Agricultural practices are carefully integrated with the local environment, utilizing practices such as mulching, pruning, weeding, irrigation, careful fertilizer application, in addition to curated pest and disease control. Coffee Management Services (CMS) an agricultural and marketing group in Kenya, currently assist with managing and running the Estate. Their focus on quality, efficiency, and sustainable agricultural practices have helped refine the coffee grown at Ngemwa.

About Kenya
The Kenyan coffee industry is renowned for its investment in research, which has led to the development of a large number of experimental varieties, of which SL-28 and SL-34 are particularly valued for their high quality.

Since the 1950s, coffee has been grown both on large estates and on smallholdings which use local washing stations to process their crops. With Kenyan coffees, you can expect sweetness, intense acidity, and complex fruit flavours.
